  • What: The 6th Annual T.S. Stribling Celebration. This year the T.S. Stribling Celebration will be held in conjunction with the George Lindsey UNA Film Festival. There will be a special screening of the film Birthright by great African-American filmmaker Oscar Micheaux. The film is based on work by Pulitzer Prize-winning novelist and Florence resident T.S. Stribling. The film deals with social issues and race relations in the South. The protagonist is an educated mulatto male who tries to survive in a small Southern town filled with racial prejudice. Part of the uniqueness of Micheaux’s work was his use of an all-minority cast. A pannel discussion will follow the film.
